Russell Crann

Course Director

Russell first played French Horn with the English Schools’ Orchestra as a Mentor in its inaugural concert in 1995 whilst studying Music at the University of Bristol. During the early years of the ESO, he had the opportunity to play with Dame Evelyn Glennie and to perform his favourite orchestral work – Saint-Saens Organ Symphony in Southwark Cathedral. He travelled with the ESO to the International Festival of Music in Banff, Canada in 2000 and on the Orchestra’s highly successful tour of Australia in 2003.

Russell returned to the Orchestra’s staff team in 2010 as Assistant Course Director and subsequently took over as Course Director in 2012. Since returning to the Orchestra, Russell has run successful exchange programmes, bringing in students from as far afield as Russia and Malaysia.

Working with the Orchestra inspired Russell to take up music education full time and following a number of Head of Music roles in the UK, he is currently in his second spell as the Director of Music and Performing Arts at Epsom College in Malaysia, an international boarding school just outside of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
