
Natalie Johnson-Hyde
Orchestral Manager
Natalie joined the English Schools’ Orchestra as Orchestral Manager in 2025. She grew up immersed in music, performing in local amateur dramatics companies and playing the oboe in county youth orchestras and ensembles, as well as the London Schools Symphony Orchestra, with whom who toured to Edinburgh. At 16, Natalie earned a place at the Purcell School, where she studied voice, piano, and oboe. She holds a BMus Hons 1st class from Birmingham Conservatoire and a Masters with distinction from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
As a singer, Natalie has enjoyed numerous oratorio and recital opportunities as well a many vocal ensemble and choral performances, and has worked with opera companies such as Birmingham Opera Company, Northern Opera Company, Guildford Opera, and Opera Holloway. She has also been a Park Lane Young Artist and competition successes include being a semi-finalist in The Handel Singing Competition and a finalist in the Thelma King Award for Singers. She won The Ambache Prize, The Gordon Palmer English Song Prize and The Delius Prize.
Natalie values all her musical experiences, particularly from her time with the National Youth Choir, where she returned as music and pastoral staff. She formed lasting friendships through youth music activities and enjoys offering similar chances to the future generation of musicians.
Currently, Natalie teaches singing at Epsom College in Surrey. She is a mother of four and hopes her children will share the family love of music. In addition to her professional commitments, Natalie volunteers for TLG Make Lunch, providing meals for families in need during school holidays, and serves as a worship leader in her local church.
