Dr Diane Davies MBE

Trustee and Honorary Treasurer

Diane was the Orchestra’s Manager since its inception in 1994 and is now the honorary treasurer and a trustee. She has always been one to volunteer especially in a musical environment, first starting over 40 years ago when her two sons began the Suzuki Violin Programme. Upon moving to Hertfordshire in 1985, she became secretary of the Mid Herts Music Centre where her sons played in a variety of bands and orchestras. She herself joined the Hatfield Concert Band and very quickly found herself as Secretary of that organisation. With her history of volunteering in the music fraternity, it was no surprise that she was asked to be involved in setting up the English Schools’ Orchestra.

Outside her activities with the ESO, Diane has a had a long association with The Royal Institution, having been the Manager of the Masterclass Programme. She has a BA and PhD in mathematics and is always willing to share her passion for science subjects with young people through the masterclasses in mathematics, engineering and computer science. She was given the prestigious Rooke Medal by The Royal Academy of Engineering and awarded an MBE for services to engineering education.
